Installation

How do I install HappyFingers?

• Download the HappyFingers iPhone app from the App Store.

• Start HappyFingers on your iPhone - A pairing key will be displayed

• Start HappyFingers on your Windows PC. Enter the key shown on the iPhone and click "Pair" to pair

Can I setup HappyFingers if I do not have Windows administrator priviledges?

• Yes - Download and extract the Zip package into a convenient directory, or onto a USB memory stick, then run HappyFingers.exe

WiFi Connection Help

How can I fix WiFi connection problems?

• Make sure that both your PC and iPhone have active WiFi

• Some connectivity problems may be cleared by re-booting the PC

• Some firewalls may block the HappyFingers WiFi connection. Try disabling the firewall.

What ports do I need to allow in my firewall?

• HappyFingers for Windows requires access to the HappyFingers website on port 80 and to the iPhone on port 36888

How can I check if both my PC and iPhone are on the same WiFi?

• On the iPhone go to "Settings, WiFi". On your PC, go to "Control Panel", "Network and Sharing Center" . The name of the network should be the same as the connected network shown in the iPhone WiFi settings. In technical terms, the PC and iPhone establish a direct connection over WiFi, and must be on the same subnet

Will HappyFingers work if my PC is connected to the internet by a cable?

• Yes - Only the iPhone needs to be connected via WiFi

Pairing

What is Pairing?

• Pairing is the process of setting up the communication channel used to link your PC and phone. This helps HappyFingers identify your phone and prevents unauthorized access.

How do I pair my PC and phone?

• Make sure HappyFingers is running on your Phone and PC

• Enter the pairing code shown on your iPhone into the PC pairing screen and click “Pair”

I can’t pair – what is wrong?

• Most pairing issues arise due to a Wifi / Connection problem. See “Wifi Connection Help" for further information.

Can I use HappyFingers on multiple devices?

• Yes, you can use HappyFingers with multiple mobile devices and multiple PC's. Simply pair the two devices you want to use with the "Pair With Another Device" option

• On the iPhone, the "Pair With Another Device" option is on the "Account" tab.

• On the PC, right click the HappyFingers tray icon and select "Paired evices" then "Pair With Another Device"



Usage

Setup

• For easy access, drag the HappyFingers icon to the home page or tab-bar of your iPhone.

• If you enable notifications on your iPhone (in Settings, Notifications) HappyFingers will send a Push Notification to your phone when you select a command using your PC.
The notification on your phone makes it easy to launch HappyFingers with just a tap or swipe

Do I need to wait for the Push Notification messages to reach the phone?

• No. Start HappyFingers yourself and get immediate execution of the requested HappyFingers function on your phone.

• This is easy if the HappyFingers icon is on the Home Page or Tab-bar of your phone

How do I use HappyFingers?

• Happy Fingers is controlled from the PC Desktop menu

How to send a text message from your PC

• Lookup the contact, and select the required number

• Select the "Send Text Message" control

• Enter your message, then select "Send"

• Start HappyFingers on your phone, or respond to the Push notification that is sent to your phone.

• The Text Message screen is displayed on your phone with your message ready to be sent to the selected contact.

• Press "Send"

• See "PC Desktop Menu"

How do I reload contacts from my Phone to my PC?

• Select the “iPhone Contacts --- > PC” button (circular arrow on the right of the input box)

How do I change the order in which my contacts are displayed?

• Click on any of the three column headers

How do I send Group Messages?

• To select multiple contacts for a group message, use the Shift or Control keys - the default number for the selected contact is used (iPhone is first pick, then mobile or cell number). You can also search for other contacts and double-click to add additional numbers

Lists of numbers can be entered separated by commas; or save number lists, one number per line, into a text file and copy/paste into HappyFingers.

The creation of contact groups is scheduled for a future release of HappyFingers.

Can I send iMessages?

• Yes - instead of sending a message to a number, select the email address associated with the iDevice (iPad or iPod Touch)

Why do I have to press "Send" on my phone to send a SMS text message?

• This is a restriction imposed by Apple.

How do I transfer pictures between the phone and PC?

• Copy the image to clipboard

on iPhone - long touch on screen over an image and then press "Copy"

on PC - Right click on an image in an application eg: Internet Explorer, and click "Copy"

• Transfer the image to the phone or PC by clicking the relevant "Transfer Clipboard" Button on the HappyFingers PC menu

What functions are supported on iPad/iPod Touch?

• Because these devices cannot make calls the dialling functionality is disabled.
SMS functionality is also disabled, however iMessages do work if you send to the email address rather than the phone number of the contact .
Clipboard functionality and syncing of contacts is also fully functional on these devices.

Does HappyFingers work on a MAC PC?

• Not at present. Development of a MAC version is under evaluation.

Can I use Bluetooth or a USB cable instead of WiFi?

• No – the app currently only works over a network

Troubleshooting

What should I do if I get an "Invalid Device Response" Error?

• You will see an error log file name eg DRF-120517194303 displayed with the error message- Email this file to support@happyfingersapp.com . It will help us work out what the issue is.

What can I do when nothing happens when I try to pair my devices?

• This is normally due to a Wifi or connectivity issue. See "Wifi Connection Help"

What do I do if I cannot get HappyFingers to work properly?
